Amicable's Thanksgiving Basket Project culminated on November 19, 2022, with the distribution of approximately 160 baskets! Many more families found themselves in need this year and we were fortunately able to fulfill it. The project was spearheaded by Pat Campion, Kim Goncalo, Sandra Lovley, and Chris Messenger. The team did an excellent job putting in many hours, carrying 160 turkeys, and countless cans, veggies, and apples! There were many other members of our church, area churches and the community in general who volunteered their time to make the event run smoothly.

 

A special thank you to the Tiverton Public Library for providing the space for distribution and food collection. Not only was food collected from Amicable members, but from St. Theresa Church, St. Christopher Church, Sakonnet Early Learning, Future Scholars Preschool, Tiverton Rod & Gun Club, Newport County Women's Club, and the public contributed a substantial amount of food as well. Local businesses were very generous financially and in supplying basket items, rolls, potatoes, squash, apples, and soup.

 

Our grateful recipients received turkey, potatoes, squash, green vegetables, corn, cranberry sauce, rolls and pie along with a variety of grocery items and non-food items (toilet paper, paper towels, soaps, etc. A $10 gift card was also included. As one youthful runner said, "My favorite part was seeing how grateful everyone was."

... and it didn't stop there....

 

Thanks to the generosity of the community, there were enough donations left over to provide 45 Christmas baskets for local families in need!
