The full meaning of “shalom” is to make whole or to restore to wholeness; You are literally saying, “may you be full of well-being” or “may health and prosperity be upon you.” [1] Today, in the United States, we say “shalom” to say peace, be free of conflict. Jesus, when he was resurrected and appeared in front of disciples, he said, Shalom. Jesus is known as the Peace-Bringer (John 20:19-20.) He told during the Sermon on the Mount, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. My last service will be October 27th. You have a great future ahead of you and I am grateful to have had this time with you. Your braveness in being an “Open and Affirming” Church, the bold sign you place on you building, the bold doors you displayed in front of your church. The baskets of food that you prepare and give to people are all signs of caring and love. You are peacemakers, here in this church and in your community. A prayer I leave for you: O God of peace, spark our staleness with your hope, invade the depth of our being with new courage, defeat us in your love. Grant that our lives may be surprising in forgiveness and healing, abounding in joy and laughter. Daring in deeds and dreams of justice. May we be do-ers, makers, pray-ers of peace in memory of Christ Jesus. Amen. [3] ASE means life force it is also a reference to the Spirit and life force of Ancestors who lend their power to us as we go through our lives. |

World Communion Sunday, October 6, 2024, offers congregations a distinctive opportunity to experience Holy Communion in the context of the global community of faith. The first Sunday of October is when Christians in every culture break bread and pour the cup to remember and affirm Christ as the Head of the Church. On that day, we recognize that we are part of the whole body of believers. Whether shared in a grand cathedral, a mud hut, outside on a hilltop, in a meetinghouse, or a storefront, Christians celebrate the communion liturgy in as many ways as there are congregations. World Communion Sunday can be both a profound worship experience and a time for learning more about our wider community of faith. We hope you can join us at Amicable on Sunday, October 6th at 10:00a.m., as we share in communion with breads from different countries! |

WORSHIP SERVICE SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2024 |
Join us for Rev. Maddie's first worship service as our settled minister on: Sunday, November 3 @ 10AM Mark 12:28-34 "Come to the Table of Grace" Jesus tells us the greatest commandment is love. Simple, right? Not always. Thankfully Jesus gives us a crash course in love that we live out each time we come to the Communion table. It’s that freely given (and received) love and grace, hand in hand, that gathers us ‘round the table and guides us in our life together. |

OCTOBER BEGINS OUR STEWARDSHIP DRIVE |
Early in October, all the members and friends of Amicable Church will receive a letter from the church which contains the annual Stewardship appeal. The Stewardship Team of the church will ask all of us to make a financial commitment or pledge to the budgeted expenses of the church. We have been doing this in one form or another for all of our 276 years as a church. We make a plan for continuing our common life and ministry - a budget for 2025 - and ask each of us to give what we can to make those plans and hopes real. Please get your head and heart ready for the appeal to come. Look to all the ways a gracious God has blessed you and those you love and-- then tell us what you intend to do to support your church. This year as part of that fall stewardship drive there will be three personal testimonials on the theme of "Why I support Amicable Church and its ministries” on Sunday, October 6th,13th and 20th. Please plan to send or bring your Pledge Sheet to worship on Sunday, October 27th. |

NEIGHBORS IN NEED OFFERING |
In 2024, the Neighbors in Need theme is "Mental Health Justice For All!" In 2015, the General Synod of the United Church of Christ passed a resolution to become WISE (Welcoming, Inclusive, Supportive, and Engaged) for mental health.
A just world for all is a world where the human rights and well-being of people with mental health challenges are respected, no matter who you are or where you are in life's mental health journey. | | |
| | One-third of the offerings collected support the Council for American Indian Ministry (CAIM). The other two-thirds are used by Justice and Witness Ministries to provide grants to UCC churches and organizations and support a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, and direct service projects. |
